About Turkey Day
Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the Rio Vista Center serves over 2,500 people from the community. Last year, the center distributed 1,012 frozen turkeys and bags of food as well as served 2,647 plates of turkey dinner during our annual Turkey Day event. We are so grateful for your generous donations and the 300 volunteers and 25 churches and organizations throughout the community that made last year’s event possible. This year, Rio Vista Center is planning for over 1,500 families to attend the event. For this to happen we need your help!
Something for everyone
On November 23rd, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM, Rio Vista Center will be serving a hot Turkey dinner at our location in South Phoenix. This is a time for the community to build relationships and enjoy a meal together. Each family will also leave the community event with a frozen turkey and a food bag to take home for their own Thanksgiving meal. New Life Pregnancy Center will also partner with us to provide fun activities for the kids like balloon animals, a bounce house, games, crafts and face painting. This event has something for people of all ages!
Demi* was driving past Rio Vista Center last Turkey Day and saw thousands of people gathered together around tables and booths. Curious about what was drawing such a crowd, she stopped at the center and found that we were providing a fried turkey meal as well as frozen turkeys for families to take home. “From the time I got out of the car to the time that I left, everyone was excellent.” Demi has since returned to the center for material assistance, such as food and clothing, and has been building relationships with the employees and volunteers at the center. “Right now, I’m having some hardships in my life and they have sustained me. And I thank you so much for people like me, that when we have hard times, you are here.” It is because of the Lord’s provision and the generosity of supporters that we are able to provide hope and care for families in South Phoenix while sharing the love of Christ with each person we come in contact with. *name changed
